How Aristaeus & Company Began
We have always loved various crafts, but it was only when we began to keep our own bees in the Spring & Summer of 2023 that we found a deeper connection with our hobbies. We had also started an allotment three years earlier, where we cultivated herbs and plants for their wellness and healing benefits.
With the beehives, I was eager to use the honey and beeswax, which are wonderful for the skin and body. My husband, Colin, focused on the timeless art of beekeeping, while I experimented with making soap in the traditional cold-pressed method, as well as cosmetics; both with honey, beeswax and natural herbs and plants as the key ingredients.
As we explored more about our growing interests, we were fascinated by the legend of Aristaeus.
Aristaeus (the son of the god Apollo and the huntress Cyrene) is a Greek deity and mythological hero who is responsible for the discovery of many useful rural arts, crafts, skills, practices and traditions, especially beekeeping. We have adopted him as the ideal symbol and embodiment of what we do.
